Katakana expressions

After digging deep and looking through various sites written in Japanese, I found Katakana to be an interesting writting in Japanese. I like the idea that there is no need to invent new words for foreign concepts and objects as Katakana can easily be used 

I have gathered three Katakana expressions I found to be interesting.

Since "Ice Cream" is English and we do not want to come up with a new word for it in Japanese (the name ice cream is already popular). I like how the Katakana is really just a broken down version of the exact pronounciation of ice cream. It makes it easy to say a foreign name in a way that still sounds Japanese.

I found it interesting that dog sounds are perceived differently in Japanese. Instead of the "woof woof" we are used to, "wan wan" is the standard. What’s even more interesting is that this can be written in Katakana. I love how Katakana isn’t only for foreign words, but also captures onomatopoeia, like dog sounds.

Lastly, I like how Katakana is used for scientifc terms too. A word like computer is standard across languages and there is no need to come up with a native name for it. So, we use Katakana for it. 

I had fun researching websites containing Katakana and I loved how verstatile it is as a writing system. I look forward to improving my Katakana in the coming days and mastering how to write foreign words in Japanese
