Introduction

Konnichiwa! Hello! My name is Macdonald. I am a computer science senior from Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

Everyone close to me knows I love to brag about how I know how to speak 4 languages. As a child, I found it easy to learn languages given the communities I grew up in and the environments my parents placed me in. I think knowing 4 languages is pretty impressive, but I my goal is stretch myself and see how far I can go.

For my fifth language, I chose Japanese because I grew up watching some anime and game shows and was fascinate by all things Japanese. I vividly remember watching Dragonball: Super! back in high school before the dubbed version was released. I had to watch the subbed version instead, wishing I understood Japanese enough to follow along without having to do so much reading. Now that I have decided to start working on my fifth, I had to choose Japanese.

I am excited for this challenge because I know it will not be easy. Japanese is drastically different from all the other languages I know which are all either African or European. I am excited for the Japan trip I am planning with my friends for this coming summer. I look forward to conversing with the locals and getting less "touristy" and more authentic Japanese experience, which I think knowing Japanese is going to enable!
